    Sea Urchin Elements 1

'Sea Urchin-Elements 1' is my intuitive response to that which is very dear to me - coastlines, oceanic life and marine conservation. The aim of this work is to entice the viewer to interpret both visually and through touch their own personal response to the shape, texture and smooth watery surface of the clay.
The hand made form is shaped, carved and glazed using various techniques. References I use are memory, collected pieces, photographs and drawings that I have compiled over the years.
A finalist work in the Urunga Small Sculpture Exhibition 2021. This work is for sale.

    Wetlands After Rain – sold

I n this work the glazes flow and emerge together to represent the soothing colours in our wetlands along the East Coast of Australia. A large wheel thrown bowl shape that has been reshaped to an oval rim. Glazes are layered on, wiped back and layered repeatedly. Stoneware clay.

    Shell Form -sold

Inspired by the curves, textures and shapes of shells, this piece is hand formed, carved and finished with a clear shiny glaze.

    Pebble Forms -sold

Hand formed these small forms represent pebbles found at the beach. The blue colour represents the water that often laps over them making them shine and shimmer in the sun.

    Blue Bird – sold

A small hand formed, painted and glazed stoneware form. Attached to a section of recycled old fence post. One in an going series expressing my love of birds.

    Coral – sold

One in a series I love to revisit. These shapes are wide rimmed vases thrown on the wheel. Glazes have been developed that run and pool on the form and dashes of reds and yellows represent coral. With light above, the holes throw shadows onto the surface where the form stands. Memories of looking down into the water at moving distorted shadows created by the ripples on the surface.

‘The Earth Tells Stories’ – sold

These small hand built forms represent the textures and shapes of our coastal rock formations. Carved and glazed with a dry white glaze. Lightly sanded after firing. These works are an interpretation of my personal journey of discovery of the intricacies of our natural environment.

Server blue in ‘Abstract design’ -sold

Large server. Wheel thrown with a 3cm high rim. Glazes are brushed on in layers and wax resist is used to create depth in the colours on the surface of the clay. An emotive representation of shape and texture drawn from nature.

    Wetlands -sold

This is a large classic vase shape that looks stunning with an arrangement or on its own. Wheel thrown approx 35cm tall. Hand made glazes are brushed on, wiped back and brushed on to create layers, colours and textures representing our precious wetland areas.
