WELCOME TO

THERESE McMAHON
CERAMICS
My current practice involves making works that express uniquely our Australian bush flowers, sea grasses and coastal landscapes.

I use stoneware clays to make forms to decorate – they are my canvas. I mainly throw my forms but sometimes I alter the thrown form with my hands when soft into an organic shape. I mix a palette of slips and then carve, draw and paint in layers until the work is complete. I work intuitively attempting to capture a feeling rather than a realistic representation of the subject. Works are then fired and a thin layer of glaze is brushed on before being fired for a second time to stoneware temperature.

My practice involves a commitment to engage people to ponder on the resilience, beauty and healing that comes with taking a little time being with nature.

I also design and make tableware for everyday use. My studio is in Wollongong, NSW
